2012.5.26 雨 rain
初夏大雨時節，到濕地公園，收穫豐富。這是快速記錄蜻蜓/豆娘篇。資料多來自公園的網頁。heavy rain in early summer season turns out to be a rewarding trip at the wetland park. here is a quick record of dragonflies/damselflies I encounter. All the information is based on that from the park’s website.
wandering glider (pantala flavescens) is a common dragonfly in wetland park. its supreme flying skill has earned it the name ‘glider’. it is commonly seen in large groups during summer, especially before rain. even in winter, it is occasionally found in sheltered areas.
elusive adjutant was discovered in hong kong wetland park in 2008 (first record in hong kong)
asian pintail (acisoma panorpoides panorpoides) – the body shape of asian pintail is very unique and differs from other dragonfly species. its body is small and spindle-like, with the abdomen which is significantly narrowed at the last few segments. the adult male is blue and black while the adult female is mainly pale green and black. because of their weak flying ability, the adults of asian pintail are usually confined to swamps or weedy ponds. from growth, mating to ovipositioning, the species completes its life cycle there.
blue dasher (brachydiplax chalybea flavovittata) is an attractive dragonfly with blue, yellow and black coloured body and a pair of green eyes. it occurs in weedy areas around ponds and marshes, and sometimes in coastal areas.
variegated flutterer (rhyothemis variegata arria) is distinctive. its forewings and hindwings have a distinct pattern of black and yellow and it flies like a butterfly. variegated flutterers can be found gliding in a large group near the end of summer.
orange-tailed sprite (ceriagrion auranticum ryukyuanum) is a large damselfly with strongly built body, and preys on smaller damselflies. this robust species has a long flight period from spring to early winter. with distinctive olive green thorax and orange red abdomen, orange-tailed sprite can be spotted easily even when it hides among aquatic plants.
褪殼 – 蜻蜓/豆娘成蟲留下的殼 shell left behind when a dragonfly/damselfly welcomes adulthood.
另外，未能拍攝到但印象深刻的是玉帶蜻，因為他飛行盤旋但不願停留，惟黑身上一帶白色往往影入眼簾。there’s one dragonfly i cannot captured in photo but remember vividly. but its white patch on the waistline contrasts with the black body. it is called pied skimmer (pseudothemis zonata).
