fire spike is native to central america. it is a nectar plant attracting swallowtail butterflies here and hummingbird back home. it has showy flashy red flowers. but i have to admit the reason this plant drew my attention is this unusual cockscomb-like inflorescence. (fire spike’s standard inflorescence is spike)
