it was the hike at pak tam chung in early oct when i saw this shrub with lovely golden flowers. according to an urban council publication hong kong shrubs volume ii, this is heart-leaved sida. Its relative “narrow-leaved sida (sida rhombifolia l)” is quite a popular plant among taiwanese flower-lovers, as i read books and websites featuring it. indeed it is a very adorable flowering shrub. the chinese common name in taiwan is “golden noon-hour”, pointing out the fact of its attractive gold colour and close-relationship with the sunlight.

interestingly, in the western world the latin name sida cordifolia returns in search result from medical and health-concern websites. check out one of the examples here.

one more added worth-taking reference, the plant is included in the “difficult” seeds project of kew royal botanic gardens.
