winter colours cannot do without chinese tallow tree.

its leaves are charming in the shape. they are alternate, broad rhombic to ovate in shape and sometimes with an extended tail often resembling the bo tree. what more, they change costume magically in cold seasons.

chinese tallow is now considered invasive in some countries. it is however of great economic values: oil extracted from the seeds can be made into biodiesel; and the tallow skin of the seeds can also turn into material of wax and soap.

as the name suggested, this tree originate from china. it has a long history, some said dated back 1,400 years. poets compare tallow tree with maples and praised the former outshone the latter during autumn.

i am intrigue by the description of its fruit, yet to observe in the right season: “fruits are three-lobed, three-valved capsules. as the capsules mature, their color changes from green to a brown-black. the capsule walls fall away and release three globose seeds with a white, tallow-containing covering. seeds usually hang on the plants for several weeks.” wiki
