last week, a flock of yellow-crested cockatoo frequent outside my windows. their target was the chinese hackberries on the slope opposite my bedroom. sometimes it was one or two, the biggest crowd consisted of about eight of them.
i have a great time watching them over the week. for one they have great tree-climbing and balancing ability. last week we had a typhoon and plenty of rain, the wind and rain could not deter them from their fruit-gobbling. they swayed and stay, while their eyes and beak never let go of the hackberries.
the way they eat is the most entertaining. they eat almost like human as they are skillful using claws to catch and hold on to branches. and, they wasted no time, they just kept on and on eating. their beaks were full of fruit puree. once they were done with fruit at one spot, they hopped to the next fruity spot and went on.
the funny thing is that yellow-crested cockatoo is famous for their noise. yet for the past week, no matter one, two or six cockatoo outside my window, it was oh so quiet. that’s because these big white birdies were simply too busy or concentrated in eating.
