didn’t realize before, chinese flame tree is not a rare planting tree type in our city. for the last week or so, i saw them at lai chi kok park, north point outside the icac hq and along a pedestrian road at tin shui wai. why they came to my attention, well , autumn is definitely their moment. they are putting happy pink on their crown.
don’t get it wrong, those are fruits not flowers.
chinese flame trees provide neat and pretty shade. each blade of the bipinnate leaves are handsomely jagged. long panicles of fragrant yellow flowers are followed by attractive, rose-pink papery seed capsules. they are deciduous, but leaves hold late into season, turn yellow before dropping.
