there are bound to be a few at least mango trees around old neighbourhoods in hong kong. this south asian native is evergreen and long-living. it stands tall and deep and has beautiful crown. its fruiting season is comical. the roads underneath the trees are splashed and mashed with green and yellow pulp; quite messy. what i love is its booming season. the flowers are no wow beauties. the colours tone them down. brown yellow with a hint of pink. it is the flourishing manner, so untamed, no constraint. every flowering season, like now, mango flowers in terminal panicles are all over the crowns, looking like hundreds of small gentle rockets ready to launch.
