樹頭菜點亮香港街頭 spider trees lit up hong kong

spider tree (crateva unilocularis) is native to asia. there is not much information in english on the internet. but if you are a follower of this blog, you won’t find this plant a stranger because every spring (and in other season too) i wrote about it.

《樹頭菜花季 flowering season 2013 of spider tree》; 《樹頭菜的果 fruit of spider tree [快影 snap]》; 《九龍公園樹頭菜 spider tree guarding kowloon park》; 《樹頭菜開花了 spider trees’ flower season begins

it is my ritual starting two years ago to chase spider tree blossoms along price edward road west around this time of the year. you however do not need to run particularly to that stretch of road (even though i highly recommend it) for the flowering season of spider tree. spider trees are common on the streets of hong kong. and, you won’t miss them as the crowns are all in gold and silver during sunny days. the blossoms start in white and later turn yellow and the red filaments are stretching out like spider legs.
