this past sunday, it felt quite chilly in the morning. i went to ngong ping to check the tree walk there for the first time.
it is easy to find the way. follow the route to the “wisdom path”. it took 15 minutes or so to reach if started from the bus terminal. there are common sights of hong kong countryside, like deserted village house. but there is also something unique here. like this ground of tea trees for tea-leaf planting.

這是三椏苦/蜜茱萸，是廿四味之一。特徵是掌狀三出複葉。廣東／香港原生。thin evodia (evodia lepta) is native to hk/guangdong. it is one of the ingredients of the cantonese herbal tea “24 herbs”.
周圍不少九節、潤楠，嫩紅襯蔥綠，好不春天的景象。new born leaves sprung in red, so spring.
看到心經簡林的入口在右，樹木徑就在左面。when you see the wisdom path on your right, turn left the tree path is there.
當日走過樹木徑，也在附近走了一圈，包括彌勒山。值得一記是昂坪這裡有很多山礬。以下是當日所見植物的紀錄 after the path, i also walked around nei lak shan. note that there is a high density of the symplocaceae family in this area, which have various flowering plants in the order of ericales (杜鵑花目). following is a record of some of the plants seen on 28feb.
光葉山礬 smooth-leaved sweet-leaf (symplocos iancifolia) – 香港原生 hong kong native
土沉香 incense tree (aquilaria sinensis)
簕欓花椒 pricky ash (zanthoxylum avicennae)
密花山礬 dense-flowered sweet-leaf (symplocos congesta) – 有初果。核果圓柱形。early fruit.
山棯/桃金孃/崗棯 rose myrtle (rhodomyrtus tomentosa) – 葉有一圈，很容易辨認。其果是行山人士之愛。one easy way to recognize this plant is the inner circle round each leaf blade.
寄生藤 shrubby dendrotrophe (dendrotrophe varians) – 廣東／香港原生。guangdong/hong kong native.
鐵芒萁 old world forked fern (dicranopteris linearis) – 香港約有三種芒萁，鐵芒萁是較少見的。this is a rarer kind of dicranopteris in hong kong.
廣東刺柊 scolopia saeva – guangdong/hong kong native.
山指甲 chinese privet (ligustrum sinense) – guangdong/hong kong native
浙江潤楠/長序潤楠在開花 machilus chekiangensis – hong kong native. one of the most common plants in hong kong in the countryside or wild. this one just started blossoming.
木薑子/山蒼樹 mountain-pepper/may chang (litsea cubeba) – 中國原生。雌雄花同株。此時正值花期。native to china. it is now the flowering season.
