黃蘭 joy perfume tree (michelia champaca)

想大家都愛白蘭,因為花幽香,花苞象牙白且修淨。 比較少人留意黃蘭,她相對冶豔版的近親。 hongkongers are familiar with white champak (michelia alba). we love the lingering delicate scent and the elegant ivory blossoms. its close relative joy perfume tree (michelia champaca) however is less known. the two sisters look quite alike. but champaca is the wilder one, with lavish orange-yellow colour and much stronger fragrant. 黃蘭與白蘭都是常綠的香花喬木,樹形相似,樹幹挺拔工整。通常樹高一般,但也有特別例子,譬如香港動植物公園的老白蘭便有三十公尺高。黃蘭與白蘭都在華南有原生品種。 兩星期遊訪荔枝角公園。此公園自己蠻熟悉的,但到當天才發現那裡的黃蘭樹。如何發現?花香。那股花香濃而不濁,與白蘭的香又明顯不同。 i am familiar with... 又到玉蘭望春時 magnolia season again

每年二三月,兵頭花園的玉蘭園就變得魔幻。 every feb and march, the magnolia garden in the botanic garden explodes magic.   幾顆不同色彩的玉蘭,爭妍鬥麗。神奇之處,當獨立注視一朵玉蘭時,她是如此恬靜冰潔。玉蘭有很多品種,也有很多別名,如望春花、玉堂春;這次特別一提辛夷。「辛夷」在中國古代典籍有不少蹤影,現代人則可能較多在中藥學上接觸。 once magnolia flourishes, that’s intensity. yet each blossom is so delicate and scented tranquility. 前文 previous posts - <purple magnolia 紫玉蘭> ; <white yulan 白玉蘭>; <木蘭屬 magnolia>

春之果 fruits of spring

萬物繁茂,花、果、芽併發。有點應接不暇。spring is full of life - fruits 桑 mulberry 白玉蘭 yulan magnolia 羅漢松 buddhist pine (podocarpus macrophyllus) 九里香 orange jasmine (murraya paniculata) 海島十大功勞 island mahonia (mahonia oiwakensis)
