秋色 2015 - 欒樹紅 appreciating autumn – the pink of chinese flame tree

every autumn people get excited talking about traveling near or far to trace after the dramatic autumn colours. travel brings a lot of fun. but i’d like to remind you my friend that sometimes and many times autumn is around us. the chinese flame tree, for one, a very commonly planted species... 紫雲木 - 藍花楹 here comes the lavender mist, jacaranda flowering season

spring is always intense for flower lovers. spider trees’ flowers are just turning from white and yellow to golden, jacaranda waste no time splash colour lavender on the plant map of this city. jacaranda is native to south america. perhaps this is why the trees... 土沉香果 fruit of agar wood [速寫 sketch]

中國珍稀瀕危植物土沉香在香港的現況 (2005年4月15日)《香港植物標本室》 i posted on agar wood blossoms back in may. last week i went to the same area where the trees are at and found a few fruits.i guess it has passed the prime fruiting time, therefore the small number of fruit. it is still fascinating to find the fruit fits the exact description:  “the... 野牡丹的花和初果 common melastoma (melastoma candidum) flowers and young fruit

last blog post is about blood-red melastoma. this time we talk about its relative from the same family and genus - common melastoma. i saw the two shrubs blossoming next to each other lately. can’t help introducing them side by side. and, they do look-alike. common melastoma flowers usually have five...
