金杯藤 cup of gold (solandra maxima)

endemic to central america, this vigorous woody vine is also known as hawaiian lily. cup of gold bores thick stemmed liana, quite big and leathery green leaves and large chalice-shaped yellow flowers. the flowers start out yellow and turn deeper golden as they age. they are fragrant,...

these few mango trees steps away from the east entrance of hong kong park are old members of the park.) mango blooms are always explosive, so even they are of earthy tone not really fleshy, the power is there. therefore this blog year after year can’t help noting the arrival of the flower... 非尋常之春紅 – 大葉欖仁、大花紫薇、楓香 unusual spring colours – bangal almond, queen crape myrtle and sweet gum

this blog hasn’t featured any winter colour this past season. the reason is that we have experienced one of the warmest winters in history. deciduous trees did not shed leaves as their biological clocks were messed up. spring has come long, and some of these trees are finally changing colours lately. is...

荔枝角公園 lai chi kok park 九龍寨城公園 kowloon walled city park third time this blog wrote about this tree but a different english common name each time. this time golden raing tree is used to match the blooming season of the species. it is the first time...
